Innovation for Health 2024

Rotterdam, 28 March 2024. This year Spatium Medical was attending Innovation for Health as last years winner of the startup pitch competition. The event was a great succes and very well organized by Hyphen Projects. The theme for this edition was Breaking Boundaries for a Sustainable Future in Healthcare. Spatium gathered the latest insights into the environmental impact of healthcare, regulations and opportunities to refurbish medical devices, design for repair, and to reduce critical materials.

Spatium presented their latest developments of the insufflator. The event was a great place to connect with innovators, entrepreneurs, scientists, policy makers, investors, thought leaders, experts and other key players from Health & Life Sciences. Human Plus invests in Spatium Medical

Rotterdam, December 2024.

Since the 1990’s, the number of laparoscopic surgeries has been ever growing, drastically reducing patient recovery time. However, the use of pressurized CO2 gas to create workspace for the surgeon, is not without consequences. Spatium Medical provides a solution by bringing smart, personalized insufflation to the world of laparoscopy.

With funding from Human Plus, and with their expertise and network, Spatium Medical can develop its technology and build the business towards Series A investment.

“Together with Human Plus, we have been able to tap into a broad European network of experts and gather essential feedback on the technology, the unmet needs and how our product can address these challenges.” says Willem Mees van der Bijl, CEO of Spatium Medical.

It was wonderful to hear all the great feedback. And the icing on the cake, … Spatium took home the prize for best start-up pitch. The jury report said: “There was a lot of debate on who should win. It all came down to the bottom-line question: “Which company would I invest in today?” The jury was unanimous in answering this question: “Spatium Medical!”. A wonderful recognition.

Spatium Medical receives a UNIIQ investment of €350.000,-

Rotterdam, 28 March 2023. To create workspace and visibility during surgeries in the abdominal cavity, surgeons use an ‘insufflator’ that blows CO2 gas in the abdominal cavity. Insufflators currently work with a manually set pressure, which causes a risk of unnecessary high pressure. The Rotterdam startup Spatium Medical develops an innovative insufflator that personalizes and stabilizes the insufflation pressure: optimal pressure for every patient, while the workspace for the surgeon remains intact. This leads to less postoperative complications and potentially faster recovery. Together with Erasmus MC, proof-of-concepts fund UNIIQ invests a total of €350.000,- in the Rotterdam startup Spatium Medical. The investment was announced by alderman Simons.
